This position requires academic and working knowledge of numerical methods for physics-based computing. Candidate will be expected to help support the maintenance and modernization of legacy codes while also developing new codes to support hypersonic modeling and simulation activities. Candidate must demonstrate a good understanding of fluid flow, thermal, and structural mechanics. Development in a parallel computing environment and Linux systems is required.
Candidate is not expected to be a seasoned expert in computational science but should have some experience from which to build upon. Kitty Hawk Technologies is a growing small business that will provide a broad range of opportunties for growth. The candidate will interact with analysts, atmospheric scientists, ground testers and flight testers to help in modeling risk to flight systems. A willingness to expand outside the candidate’s core knowledge area and explore solutions in a research and development setting is critical. Future technologies for research will include, but are not limited to: maching learning, Raspberry Pi development, big data analysis.
The candidate will be responsible for communicating with internal and external (government) customers about the importance and meaning of modeling and simulation to their needs. Participation on proposals will be expected. Candidates that are able to write their own proposal will have greater opportunities for growth of their own teams, if desired. Good oral, written, and presentation skills are a must in this position.
Kitty Hawk Technologies is seeking a computational scientist with a Master's degree or PhD for this position. Candidates Master's degree must show a demonstrated history of physics-based software development Candidates with a PhD and 0 years of experience will be considered with a relevant dissertation topic.
