Kitty Hawk Technologies, a growing service, technology, and manufacturing innovator, is seeking talented and motivated professionals in atmospheric science/meteorology to the help weather characterization of environments in support for hypersonic ground and flight tests. We have an immediate opening for an Atmospheric Science Associate or Journeyman to join our team. This position requires the knowledge of precipitation of environments and how they differ in in different parts of the world. Candidate will be expected to work with ground radar, satellite, and model data to help achieve program goals. Scope of work will include, but is not limited to, understanding how sensors collect data, how sensor returns are modelled, and the uncertainty associated with the physical data results. Candidate will be expected to write software or scripts to collect and process data for development of requirements, tools, and processes to help non-atmospheric scientists understand what is important in weather information. A strong background in probability and statistics is preferred but not required.

Candidate is not expected to know all details about atmospheric science but should have some specialty in an area that can help ground testers and flight testers understand the risk to flight systems. Knowledge of how weather influences flight performance is a plus but not required. A willingness to expand outside the candidate’s core knowledge area and explore solutions in a research and development setting is critical. Kitty Hawk is a small business and candidate will support a broad range of atmospheric science related activities allowing the candidate to learn and grow in a variety of directions.

The candidate will be responsible for communicating with internal and external (government) customers about the importance and meaning of weather related results. Participation on proposals will be expected. Good oral, written, and presentation skills are a must in this position.


Kitty Hawk Technologies is seeking an atmospheric scientist/meteorologist with a Master's degree for this position. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree working on a Master's degree will be considered for internship or part-time employment while completing their degree. Candidates with Bachelor's degree and history of relevant accomplishment will also be considered.

Key requirements for this position include, but is not limited to:

-Understanding the fundamental physics of atmospheric science and/or meteorology
-Knowledge of online weather data sources for application to flight performance modeling
-Understanding of the fundamental differences between different weather data sources such as ground radar, satellite, global and local models
-Software development and/or scripting experience for collection and processing of data
-Knowledge of Linux systems strongly desired
-Highly motivated individual able to work both independently and in team settings
-The ability to think creatively and generate solutions to challenging problems
-Good written, presentation, and oral communication skills
